SEAN

mcoll

Sean McColl has been defying gravity since the age of 12, cementing himself as a trailblazer in the world of climbing. Hailing from Vancouver, BC, Sean proudly represented Canada when sport climbing made its historic Olympic debut in Tokyo 2020—a milestone he helped bring to life through years of advocacy.

A five-time world youth champion (a record still unmatched), he seamlessly transitioned into senior competition, claiming four overall World Championship titles, five World Cup victories, and 23 additional podium finishes. He is also the only athlete in IFSC history to post a top-8 World Cup finish in all three disciplines. But his drive isn’t limited to climbing walls; Sean’s versatility has also shone on shows like American Ninja Warrior, where he’s left audiences in awe and has ambitions to return.

Work hard to support your passion until your passion can support you.

Beyond the climbing walls, Sean is full of surprises. A sushi lover with a sharp mind, Sean earned an Honours degree in Computer Science from BCIT, balancing academics with his demanding athletic career. He’s also a really skilled piano player.

As much an advocate as an athlete, Sean has been instrumental in shaping sport climbing’s future. From serving as President and now Vice-President of the IFSC, he played a key role in bringing climbing to the Olympic stage.

Passionate, driven, and multi-talented, Sean McColl is as dynamic off the wall as he is on it—an inspiration to climbers and athletes alike.
